Mme Hardy

Yes, more 1960s. Along with heaps of other eras, it is one of my favourites. But despite my epochal infidelity, I do have a special place for the music of the early 60s, no doubt from the primacy of the Beatles in my early music appreciation development. Maybe too it’s because it’s when my parents were young.

I prefer 1950s style, there’s a certain dumpy ugliness about the 1960s. But like a comfortable but unflattering sweater, the 1960s seem more like home.

Mmmm… I’m rambling. Here’s Francoise Hardy lamenting that all the girls and boys of her age are in love except for her.

No Milk Today

Would appear that I’m in a 60s mood…

Don’t Tell Me What To Do

… because you don’t own me

How lovely is Lesley Gore in this early 60s clip? I once tried to get my hair to do that but with little success.

Mathematics has never been this good

This has been on high rotation over here. Love it! It’s Little Boots’ Mathematics.

A Break from Baking

I’m getting married in less than a week (eek!) so I don’t think I’ll be able to do the daring baker’s challenge this month.

Meanwhile, I saw this little video this morning and it cheered me up (just a wee bit little bit stressed out at the moment!):

The music is Spoon’s I turn my camera on – which reminds me, I have to make my wedding mix…

Anime Girl rocks!

Theresa Fu, canto pop goddess with On Your Mark – quite possibly the catchiest pop song ever written?  Nah, but it’s good. It’s my current favourite along with the Fearless track.

You can see another version of the video here, if you so desire.

Not really sure where to get them, could be on Amazon – I’m hoping they’ll be easy enough to find on my next trip to my local Chinatown.

Soppy but catchy

Yeah, this is one of the ones that I do like despite myself. So sappy but there’s just something too addictive about the chorus after hearing it a few times.

Leo Ku singing Belated Love or Never Too Late depending on your translation.

Jolin Tsai – a woman of a thousand faces

Jolin is a little creepy. She looks a different person every time they change her make up and hair.

You could have told me there were two main singers in this clip for Let’s Move It and I would have been yeah okay:

She’s from Taiwan like Jay Chou.

Here she being all butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth in Ideal State:

And is this the same person doing Zheng Yi Zhi Yan, Bi Yi Zhi Yan – apparently..

A series of Chinese (in the broader sense) music videos

Have been listening to some sino pop, strangely nothing to do with the Olympics. Just the usual thing where I hear one good tune on YouTube and then I follow the links – suddenly, it’s already lunch and I have no work done. But the Olympics is a good excuse I guess. So today and for the next few days, I’ll post a series of popular canto and taiwo pop music videos. Some are very catchy, others I like despite myself. Anyway, you can be the judge…

First up, Taiwanese born Jay Chou’s Fearless from the martial arts movie of the same name. And yes, apparently that IS him doing a falsetto duet with himself. Love it.

Snap, Crackle and Minipop!

Minipop brought to you by the sixty one – a musical experiment. If you have indie leanings then there are plenty of little gems to be found.
